The home life

A new week has dawned and with it the changes and discoveries that make up our lives. Our house, Le Maison Burger, is no different and the tides of change have come as well.

This week spyMommy makes her return to work. The thought of it has been a source of trepidation. For months now we’ve struggled with the thought of just how we were going to manage this. Unfortunately Rowan is not sleeping through the night which means that spyMommy will not get a full night’s rest before work and I can not trust myself to sleep while he is asleep and still this young, and unpredictable. My afternoon naps can be deep. So in other words, less sleep for the parents. We’ll live.
Monday was the first of such days and I would say it all went pretty well. As I’ve said in previous posts, Arwen is very good with routine and it just so happened (today anyway) that Arwen’s routine coincided perfectly with Rowan’s, thus making it possible for them both to get what that needed when they needed it. It’s a good feeling, and it gives some hope. Only time will tell, of course.

Rowan had his 2 month doctor’s appointment which I took him to. We had some basic concerns to address with the doctor, and other than gaining a bit too much weight in the month since he’s been, everything is well and good. He weighed 15 pounds and 4 ounces, 24 inches long with a head of 16 inches. He is a biiiig boy. Not only has his body grown, but he is one chatty baby. Of course it falls under the “If there isn’t video it didn’t happen”, category but its true. Just like Arwen, Rowan is fascinated by any camera and will stop just about anything to stare at it.

Arwen too has grown, we’ve started trying to track her on the Wii Fit. I measured her at 34 inches tall, I can’t remember what her weight was. And talk about chatty. Her vocabulary is growing daily. She has begun to memorize her favorite videos, mimic people and respond to videos. Recently she picked up about 25% of the “Head, shoulders, knees and toes” song and dance. Any word she can’t even partially enunciate becomes “boop” or “ooop” or “uuugh”. I wanted to make an Arwen dictionary, but it would mean updating it every day and I can’t commit to that. Her newest words are: ball, purple, I did it, pink, woohoo, uh-oh, cat, stop it, head and no no no. I’m sure there are more, that’s all I can remember right  now. Also she prompts you to play one game or another and she makes her dolls do the physical movements of the games she knows.

What could’ve been a very stressful home situation is actually, most of the time, a very pleasant one. We’ve been blessed with some amazingly cheerful and well (ish) behaved babies. I don’t know that you could ask for better.
