It seems for a while now we’ve been letting the pictures and videos do the talking. It’s evident that the kids are growing, its evident that they’re developing. I don’t suppose that’s enough though. For example I believe that Arwen learns as many new words in a day as she forgets. spyMommy recently commented on how word’s she used to say clearly and with comprehension, she doesn’t anymore. Like today Arwen said, “awesome”, and, “terrible”. I have little doubt that by this time tomorrow evening, she’ll not be saying it anymore.
So far this summer has been a fairly warm one. It was warm before it was summer, and Arwen loves to be out in it. We have a sprinkler toy, a small pool and of course the hose with multi-pattern spout. She loves all of them. We spend a good deal of time outside when we can. It makes up for the months we have to stay indoors, lest our noses freeze off. We’ve also been rollerblading with the both of them, as often as we can. I think its still too early to tell with Rowan, but Arwen likes to go fast.
Arwen is learning fast. As I just said, she learns as much as she forgets in a day. Some of her favorite things recently are puzzles and animal flash cards. It’s really cool to see her associate what she learn through the cards with what she sees in nature.
There’s a surprisingly well tempered stray cat that wanders into our yard now and then. I’m afraid Arwen might become attached. Any animal she sees she has to chase down.
Rowan is well… Rowan. He’s fat, he’s happy and he’s chatty. Seriously, the kid is huge. Weighing about 10 pounds less than Arwen, there’s no need for home workout videos or gym memberships. This boy talks. It’s always something. I don’t know what he’s got to be so chatty about, but I think he’s making verbal observations about everything he sees.
It’s not fair, but to be expected that we compare his progress to what we remember of Arwen at the same age. The main differences? He like to be held a lot more. He talks A LOT more, and his motor skills seem to be more developed. He’s pretty close to sitting up on his own too. Then again, with a gut to rival his father’s, it more a matter of leverage.
We’ve started him on solid foods, he seems to like sitting at the table, but I think almost as much comes out as comes in. He seemed to really like applesauce and sweet potatoes, personally I don’t think he digs the pears very much.
The relationship between Arwen and Rowan is steadily improving. Still I think Arwen see him as more of a toy that a person, but toys are meant to be played with and that’s a start. For Rowan’s part, he loves his sister. His face lights up whenever she notices him. The sound of her voice or her silly dances are enough to make him smile like nothing else.
