Cord Blood Banking

So Wendy went to the doctor today and came back with all kinds of pamphlets, fliers and information. She had me read through some of it, and one things that caught my attention was something called Cord Blood Banking.

Basically what’s done is the blood from the umbilical is stored and shipped to a lab where the stem cells are extracted and saved for future use. Is it just me, or is that totally creepy? I can see the potential good of this procedure but at the same time you’re placing an enormous amount of trust in a faceless storage company. A mind fueled by sci-fi paranoia says this is a really bad idea.

This is one step closer to government collected DNA samples at birth… Or are they already doing that?
