After confusing the time of the appointment and having to reschedule, we made it to the doctor for Arwen’s 5/6 month check up. The visits to the doctor are always quite dreadful. First, despite making an appointment, we waitied around for nearly 50 minutes before being shown in. (IMHO they make us wait to get the baby fussy). And then, there are the dreaded vaccines. Before we get to all that, the points of the visit.
- She now weighs 17 pounds, 5 ounces
- She is 27 ¾ inches long
- She is in the 76th and 97th percentile for weight and height respectively.
There was little to report healthwise. She is of good disposition and hasn’t seemed to grow any extra limbs in the past few months. Then it was on to the vaccines. The doctor seemed surprised to hear the reports of her reactions to the previous administrations, but voiced no actual concern over them. Oh, I just get so fired up about this subject. I’ve ranted once so I won’t again.
You can probably guess what then happened, there were pokes, blood and a whole lot of crying. She settled down pretty quickly and let us get on with the day. A few hours later the tenderness of the wounds and the effects of the vaccines kicked in for a bit. A good 90 minutes of crying followed, but by the time I left for work she was settled down and resting.
Tomorrow she is six months old. We should have some pictures to commemorate the occasion, so stay tuned.
